Principal’s Welcome

As Principal and on behalf of the hardworking and dedicated staff and Board of Management of St. Angela’s College, I would like to welcome you to our website. We very much hope that you like the website and find the site informative and useful. As you explore these web pages, you will learn about our wonderful students, our exceptional environment, and get a feel for the vibrancy and strength of our wider School community. If you’re a past-pupil, we hope that you will use the site to keep in touch with school activities and events.

St. Angela’s College is an Ursuline secondary school under the trusteeship of Le Chéile. Situated in the heart of Cork, we welcome students from all parts of the city, its suburbs and indeed its hinterland. This healthy mix of town and country contributes greatly to the school’s very special atmosphere, which is always remarked upon by students, parents and visitors alike.

St Angela’s has been educating girls in Cork since 1887 and we are very proud of our tradition of empowering young women to reach their full potential by exposing them to an education which reflects the ethos and values of the Ursuline Sisters and the teachings of the foundress of the Order, Angela Merici. We are a school rooted in family values, and we emphasise courtesy, kindness and respect in all our dealings with members of our school community.

Following a major refurbishment, in 2016, we moved back to a new school on our original site overlooking the city, from the heights of St. Patrick’s Hill. We now have new state-of-the-art buildings – a learning environment for all members of the school community to thrive which will serve them well into the 21st century.

While we have a strong reputation as an academic institution, this is only one element of what makes our school special. We believe in catering for the holistic well-being of all our students, through academic, sporting, cultural and spiritual pursuits.

We offer a broad ranging curriculum at both Junior and Senior Cycle, which endeavours to meet the needs of students and to prepare them for their Third Level aspirations and beyond.  Over the last few years we have introduced a Nurture programme, aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of all students and Technical Graphics in Junior Cycle, along with Economics and Agricultural Science at Senior Cycle.  By constantly reviewing, innovating and improving our curriculum we strive to meet the current and evolving needs meet the current and evolving needs of our student cohort and also a changing society.

As a Catholic school we place great value on faith formation, the nurturing of spirituality and an exposure to liturgies throughout the school year. We cherish every student and member of our school community. While we are proud of our firm liturgical base, we are all Catholic in the sense of ‘all-welcoming’, we have students of all faiths and none who add to the rich tapestry of life in the school.

Our reputation is well-established, thanks to the constant dedication and commitment of staff, the partnership of parents, and the support of the wider school community. We encourage high standards in all that we do at St Angela’s College. We encourage our students to aim high in their studies, to reach their full potential whatever that might be and to be sensitive to the rights and needs of others.

We have been delighted to find that the Le Chéile values of welcome, wisdom and witness have enriched and enhanced the already strong Ursuline identity of our school.  Membership of the trust has enabled us to create further links with the wider community of Cork and Ireland, and has assisted in safeguarding the values of Catholic education in the modern era.

For many parents, the choice of secondary school for their child is a crucial one. If you are viewing this website to help you make such a decision, we thank you for your interest in our school and hope that the information presented on our webpages gives you a true sense of what we are about in St. Angela’s College.

Of course, this website cannot take the place of visiting our School; I warmly welcome you to visit our School by contacting us, and discover first-hand what makes a St Angela’s College education so special.
